Becoming a Mentor

We welcome your interest in being a mentor for a young lady at the Carrollton Farmers
Branch ISD Early College High School (ECHS) located on the campus of Brookhaven
College. This program begins before the academic year in August and ends in May of
each year. A mentor is asked to commit to that entire length of time, about 3 hours a
month. Our goal is to help these scholars be successful in their academic career through
problem solving and behavioral growth.

Mentors are…
Mentors come from various walks of life: college employees, local residents, and civic
groups, including AAUW. They are all women with personal knowledge of the college
experience. They are also women who are willing to listen to a young girl and guide her
as she matures.

More information
To become familiar with the GEM program, you are encouraged to browse the pages of
this web site to determine if you would like to volunteer as a mentor. If you want to help
without actually being a mentor, volunteers can bring a part of a meal, provide a program,
or sponsor a catered meal.
